Forgiveness. Jesus offers so much forgiveness.

What a wonderful thing to ponder on. You know, I just don’t think people with OCD can think about this enough. I know I can’t.

You see, with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, it’s easy to think that everything we do won’t be good enough or can’t possibly be forgiven/forgotten of. But—au contraire, my friend—it can!

So much of my disordered life has involved me not doing things perfectly—like there is some secret sin deep within me that I try to dig out of myself. So often, I don’t just let me be me. I’m constantly looking at my motives. Did I do that with a deep-down evil intent? Apparently, it’s so evil that I cannot even see it myself without diving deep. Yeah, hmm, that makes sense…not!

There is a huge level of grace I’m learning that Jesus has for us…those of us plagued by this disorder. There is something seriously wrong with our brain. We have let it get so rewired, not to mention the kind of environment/toxins there are in this sinful world. Who knows what has messed us up with this disorder. Maybe vaccines are to blame, ear infections, the list goes on.

What I’m learning is that Jesus stands at the door of my heart. He’s waiting there patiently. Are you ready for My healing now? It’s almost as if I can hear Him say these words.

So often rather than not, we let our own perfectionism ebb away at our character. God made us—“flaws” and all—and we try to fix every little thing that goes wrong, not realizing that in trying to obtain perfection, we lose ourselves. Sometimes we just need to lighten up a bit and laugh at ourselves.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23

We all make mistakes. If you think you are the only one in the world who ever falls short every now and then, man, are you in for a shocker: everyone messes up every now and then! It’s not our job to constantly view our faults and try to dig into our inner intentions so deep that we hurt ourselves. No, there’s more to life than that!

So what? You’ve made a mistake? We’ve all made a mistake! Only Jesus can fix the problem now. Don’t try to solve it; don’t try to fix it because you can’t. Only Christ can.

He understands that we have a physical ailment that limits us at times and causes us to make mistakes. He gets it. He understands this world better than anyone. He walked this planet. If there’s anyone, He understands the evilness of it all. This world is so evil; it led to Jesus being crucified—a horrible death—in the face of it all. He understands evil.

So, sit for a moment in His grace why don’t you? It’s precious, it’s pure, it’s lovely…

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.” Philippians 4:8
