It seems that whenever I go through a difficult time, I find myself writing for this blog again. As believers in Christ, we can encourage one another even in our own moments of struggle. I’ve found that when everything is going alright, I tend to get a little self-centered and oblivious to the needs of others. There’s something about being in the thick of battle that makes you want to reach out to help others. . .

One thing that I want to share with those of you suffering with anxiety or depression is this: the victory is already won. Jesus paid the ultimate cost for you and I. There is truly nothing more we can do. We cannot save ourselves.

When you are going through a rough time with anxiety, I want you to think of something: are you focusing on all that you must do? If so, it’s likely that you aren’t focusing on God. What are His thoughts towards the manner? It is likely they are much different than the fear-based scenarios you have come up with.

The thing is, those of us who tend to suffer from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) want to fix things. We desperately want control. We long for it; we crave it. However, this can lead to destruction in our lives…lives based around fear.

The thing you and I have to come to grips with is the fact that you and I are not in control. This should relieve us. There are simply too heavy of burdens you and I are carrying. We often try to carry them, but like a little child, we have to simply call on God our Father to take these burdens that are too heavy for us to lift. Perhaps God allows them in our lives for that very reason – so that we surrender and realize that we are not God. We have to let God be God.

So, in the midst of trying times during this disorder, I want to ask you this thing: Are you living a life of “do” or “done?” Jesus said on the cross, “‘It is finished (John 19:30).’” Do you truly believe that? It. Is. Done. Jesus paved the way to God that we ourselves could never accomplish. Our eternity doesn’t rest on our shoulders. Jesus took the blame. He took it all.

Because when you begin to believe that, you step into a new freedom unlike anything you ever experienced before in your life. Jesus takes the burdens – He takes the suitcases of all our imperfections, embarrassments, regrets, and guilts. He stands in our place as the atonement for our sins. Sometimes, we need to have our fingers pried off the suitcase one by one before we truly begin to see how true this is. Why carry the baggage any longer?

There are things in our lives that we need to let go of. There are control issues that we need to deal with. What do you need to let go of today? Perhaps taking a moment to ponder these things will help bring to light anything in your life that you need to surrender to God. . . THINGS I NEED TO HAND OVER TO GOD:

  • _____________________________________________________
  • _____________________________________________________
  • _____________________________________________________

We have not been left as orphans. On no. We are children of God.

“‘I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.’” John 14:18

You better believe that He would never forsake us. The giving of these things unto Him shows wisdom: that we realize that His ways are higher than our ways. It’s not easy at first, but I think with time, this could be a beautiful habit (better than the fearing and poor habits OCD sufferers are known to make). Remember, practice makes perfect. Build the strength in your mind little by little by handing over the parts in your life that concern you. Then, step aside and see God work!

God bless brother and sisters in Christ! Keep the faith! <3
